It’s not easy committing your time to a full-time job and a blog. I’ll be the first to tell you. With so many people obsessed with having a “side hustle” I personally think careers and these secondary jobs are suffering. I’m sure you want to be able to do both and not have different areas of your life suffer. Which is why today’s blogging tips are about managing a full time job and a blog!

Blogging Tips – Managing A Full Time Job And A Blog

Organize yourself. If you’re signed up for my newsletter, you know I got a new planner this year. I’m always looking for new ways to improve my organization. Even if you’re good at remembering things, you should never rely 100% on your memory. Having lists and notes is more reliable than your head! Trust me. I also learned a lot of different ways to get organized when I worked for a professional organizer in college.

Time management is key. I’ve got an entire post on time management, have you seen it? Using your time effectively and productively is easier said than done. Write everything down, make a schedule and stick to it.

Know what your goals are and be realistic. I personally didn’t start my blog because I hated my job and wanted to do something “fun”, or for free stuff. Trust me, this is the reason why A LOT of people start, even if they don’t say it. If these are your reasons it will NEVER be worth managing all the stress that comes along with having two jobs.

You’re going to have to sacrifice somewhere. Whether its less time with your friends, less sleep or fewer workouts, you’re going to have to make time to work on your brand/blog. If you like your job or at least value your job, you’re not going to want to sacrifice there. I’m lucky enough that at my current job I’m able to take a lunch break and attend a lot of events are in the city after work. Since I’ve had two jobs for quite some time, I’ve really learned how to get things done efficiently so I only have to sacrifice a little sleep and a few workouts.

Starting any kind of new business takes a lot of work and commitment. Treat your full time job with respect and your blog like a business and you will be able to manage everything professionally. Want to learn more? You should check out this post if you want to know how and why I started my blog!
