Valentine’s day, they say you either love it or hate it. But I personally fall somewhere in the middle of that. I love a good themed gathering or party and hanging out with my girls aka galentines. But I can’t stand going out to eat on such a crowded night. Luckily, Tom and I have always celebrated our relationship, so I guess that’s why I just don’t feel the need to run out, on Valentine’s day.
Food has always been the way to my heart, like so many others out there. Today I wanted to share, in collaboration with my friends Helen of styleinherited.com and Caitlin of thefrizzyfibro.com, some quick and easy Valentine’s day treats for everyone!
Quick and Easy Valentine’s Day Treats for Everyone
The rice crispy treat is one of the most underrated, easy to make treats in my opinion. They’re warm and can be easily customized! Making them a perfect item for today’s post.
The ingredients are on the box, but here’s how we tweaked it to make ours PERFECT:
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 package mini Marshmallows
- 5 1/2 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- Wax paper
- Rectangular Pyrex or a baking tray
To customize them all you need is:
- A few drops of food coloring
- sprinkles
- a cookie cutter
- candy melts
We, of course, went with red food coloring (to make the rice crispy’s themselves pink), white candy melts, pink candy melts and heart-shaped cookie cutters. You know because, Valentine’s Day.
How to:
- Melt your butter in a large pan and add marshmallows. Stir until it’s melted completely with no lumps. Turn off the heat. Add a few drops of red food coloring and stir.
-
Add rice crispies a little at a time. We wanted them to be a bit more gooey than dry so we had some cereal leftover that we didn’t add.
-
Put down the wax paper in a pyrex dish or a rectangular baking tray. Add rice crispy mixture. Using another piece of wax paper flatten it out so it becomes more compact.
-
Once set (we threw ours in the fridge for a few minutes because we were filming) use a cookie cutter to shape your rice crispies!
-
Decorate with melted candy melts (we melted ours in the microwave, for thirty seconds at a time until melted) and sprinkles. To get the drizzle on top, Helen used a spoon and ran over the rice crispies in a sweeping motion. Full coated ones were dunked.
Serve and enjoy (but take your photos first!).
