Everyone has been posting their decades and/or year in review on their Instagram. And honestly, not that I’m not happy for others, I 100% am, but I can’t help but feel a little shitty when I see them. It makes me question myself, my own goals, and ask, did I do enough? I don’t want to look back at the past. I want to enjoy today.
The best way I feel like we can all do that is to scroll a little less and be present more. It was one of my goals from last year that I now realize still needs work.
So today, while of course, I will share my personal goals for the New Year (telling others your goals is the best way to hold yourself accountable). First, I’m going to share small New Year’s goals we can all benefit from. Easy little things we can all do to make our planet a better place.
New Year’s Goals We Can All Benefit From
- Shop smarter. Less fast fashion, more reusable items. Spending smarter helps our environment. If you purchase items from ethical brands they take care of their employees and care about their carbon footprint. I shared a post about being a more ethical shopper and this year I think we can all take our shopping to a new level.
- Pay to forward more often. We can all stand to give others more compliments to lift each other up. We can share our time to help people who need it. Overall adding more small acts of kindness will make you feel just as good as the person you’re being kind to. After Jackie and I partnered with our local florist to Petal it Forward, we made a list of easy and inexpensive ways you can pay it forward in 2020.
- Be a fountain, not a drain. Put yourself first. 2020 is going to be my year of NO. If I don’t want to do something there’s no excuse, it’s just a no for me dog. The happier and more well-rested you are the more you will physically and mentally have to give to others.
My Year In Review + My Personal Goals
- Learn how to invest my money. I have a Robinhood account that I randomly purchase stocks on, on my own. This year, I really want to hire someone to help me.
- Hire people. I can do a lot but I no longer want to try and do it all. There’s no shame in paying for help.
- Continue to grow Simply by Simone. This year I’ve doubled my income and my website visitors, created an LLC and expanded to YouTube. My main goals Simply by Simone in the new year are to grow my YouTube subscribers and views and to grow my website traffic even more.
My Year of No
Saying no it’s always easy. In fact, I find it easier to say yes and worry about what I’ve committed myself to later. But saying no to anything I don’t want to do goes much further for me than the act itself. It goes hand in hand with living my life on my timeline.
An example: No, I don’t want to pay off my student loans this year. There were many years where it was just not attainable because I wanted to use my money to enjoy my life. And my goal to save money was a bigger priority than paying off loans. You have to live life on your own timeline and do what is attainable for you. Sometimes that may mean saying no to your own goals, because are they really even yours? Or are they societies?
Setting New Year’s Goals
First, if you haven’t set goals yet, don’t worry about it. You’re a boss babe that lives life on your own timeline anyway. Try setting some today, maybe this weekend when you’re off again. The most important thing is that you do what true to you.
After you set some goals, tell the people you are around the most. Family and friends will help hold you accountable, especially if you’ve set a goal to break a habit.
Finally, set some check-ins on your phone. Reminders will help keep you on track to achieve whatever you want! They may also help you understand when a goal no longer serves you. It’s ok to leave a goal in the past at any time.
Finally…
I think setting goals we can all benefit from is the way to go in 2020. If you set three goals, one of them should benefit someone else. Because it always benefits you when you help others! What was your favorite goal we can all benefit from? Have another idea? Drop it below in the comments!
