Easing Into Fall Style and My #1 Pet Peeve

Easing Into Fall Style and My #1 Pet Peeve-Westchester County-Simply by Simone-Fall Style-2018-Anita Dongre Working in fashion and running a fashion blog made it easy for this pet peeve to emerge. But, before I tell you my pet peeve, let’s see if you can guess. I’m going to backtrack a bit. Did you know I started working in retail when I was eighteen? I started in September and by the end of October, I swear it felt like Christmas/Holiday items and marketing already started popping up around the store. But if you’ve been in a store in October, I’m sure you already know that. I mean, the CVS by me already has Halloween candy out. It’s crazy, but not as crazy as seeing Fall style in my inbox, on my Instagram, and in store. I’m all for prolonging Halloween, but I’m also for prolonging summer! Plus it’s still so hot out. Can you guess my pet peeve? I hate it when people post photos of themselves in Fall clothes in an area that you still know is hot AF. Not just a warm 70, maybe then I could understand, I mean 85+ degrees. We all know the heat has been horrible this Summer. Why must people insist on posting Fall sweaters? I’m just not into it. Complaining is fun in all, but I love to counter my complaints with solutions.

Enter my how-to tips on easing into Fall style…

  1. Ditch the straw bags and Summer accessories. The easiest way to dress in a more Fall-like look come September is to utilize the season’s newest accessories. Or the cool ones you have in your closet from last season.
  2.  Pair your booties with your Spring and Summer dresses. Nothing makes a look cozier than wearing boots with it. I’d also stay away from spaghetti strap dresses and opt for short or long sleeve ones.
  3. Switch up your color palette. Opt for your deeper hues like dark green and black, and plaid and animal prints. A green satin skirt with a lightweight sweater is way better than going for a floral pink skirt. Which brings me to my next point.
  4. Do the California cool sweater + shorts /skirt combo. If you must wear a sweater, pair it with shorts or a skirt for a certified fashion favorite look. Take notes from the Cali girls, they know what they’re doing!
Easing your wardrobe into Fall shouldn’t be hard. These tips will keep you looking season appropriate, even if it’s 80 degrees in October (it happens). My dress is Anita Dongre Grassroot. I attended an event at her store in Soho a few weeks ago and learned more about the line.  This dress is on sale, and perfect for your transition into fall. I’m wearing a size XXS. The print also came in a beautiful blouse. If you have a chance to stop by the store, it is filled with beautiful items! The Grassroot collection specifically supports artisans in small villages in India who make the clothing. In addition, Anita gives back a portion of the money she makes on the dresses back to the village it was made in. From Anita Dongre Grassroot: “Indian textile crafts are passed down from one generation to the other — master to apprentice. Every family has its special technique practiced and honed over several years. At Anita Dongre Grassroot, we’re giving fashion the slow, steadfast care it, and its makers, deserve. It’s painstaking and laborious, but so very soulful, like all works of art.” Now, this is the best part of fashion. Being able to wear clothing that supports a woman designer, who supports artisans in small villages in another part of the world.
