I’m not into weddings. Yes, not even the royal ones. It’s ok to roll your eyes I get it. Weddings are just not my thing. But I obviously caught a lot of the royal wedding coverage and all I could notice is all the fascinators! So, today on this Westchester living post, I’m recapping judging the Empire City Casino Kentucky Derby hat contest and sharing some of my favorite fascinators!
First up, if you don’t follow me on Instagram, I judged the Empire City Casino Kentucky Derby hat contest! I judged alongside Habiba Alcindor and Greg T from z100. I had so much fun looking at all the creative hats that people made. There is seriously a lot of work that goes into crafting your own hat! I judged on presentation, so if there was an outfit to match the hat, you got a 10! But I think the best part is being involved in the Westchester community. If you’re a local, they do the contest every year, so you can definitely add it to your calendar next year. I personally think I may enter the contest next year! It really was so much fun.
Onto the fashion!
After seeing what everyone wore to the Royal Wedding, it got me thinking about the fascinator I wore to the Kentucky derby hat contest. I swear I thought I would never have another excuse other than the Kentucky Derby to wear it. Then, I saw the all outfits at Megan Markle’s wedding. So many fascinators. I have to say, Amal Clooney’s yellow fascinator was my favorite! I don’t know if I would actually wear mine at a wedding, but I am definitely a bit inspired to do so!
I’m wearing a Love Leeann romper in size medium. I could have also fit into a small but I wanted this to be very comfortable since I didn’t know how much walking around I was going to do for the judging. I can see myself wearing this over and over again this Summer. It’s that comfy! My denim jacket is also I size medium, which is normal for me. I always like my jackets to be a bit oversized. Shoes are Bernardo from last year, I linked a very similar pair below. Plus they’re on super sale, along with my earrings that are $12!!
