Watermelon Margarita Recipe Straight from the Watermelon!

Watermelon Margarita Recipe Straight from the Watermelon-Lifestyle-Drinks-Summer-Cocktails

If you follow me on Instagram, you would know I was off from my 9-5 all last week. I spend an entire week on the North Fork lounging around and it was much need. So, to end the week off right, in collaboration with my boyfriend and his Aunt Sandy, together we made this tasty watermelon margarita recipe straight from the watermelon! We had extra tequila on the side for shots and for those who liked their drinks extra boozy! Yum!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 seedless, ripe watermelon (about 10-12 pounds)
  • 2/3 cup Tequila (I used Casamigos Blanco)
  • 1/3 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/3 cup orange flavored liqueur (I used Cointreau)
  • Sea salt + zest of 3 limes** see the end of the recipe below
  • lime slices for garnish
  • ice
  • one 6-8 ounce plastic cup

**I only added about a cup of ice and about two cups of watermelon, so these measurements filled 1/2 the watermelon. I quadrupled this recipe to fill up the watermelon and a pitcher for about 14 guests.

How to make your Watermelon Margarita Recipe Straight from the Watermelon:

  1. If you’re good at cutting pumpkins you can definitely cut a watermelon! I’m a bit clumsy, so I had Tom cut the hole in the top of the watermelon. First, he traced around the cup using a knife and then removed the cup to fully cut the hole. I used a large spoon to spoon out the watermelon and put it aside in a bowl. You’ll see many recipes call for a hand mixer, and trust me, it’s more trouble than it’s worth. Just scoop out the watermelon and use a blender.
  2. Add tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, 1 cup ice and about 2 cups watermelon (I eyeballed the watermelon as I didn’t want my drinks to be too sweet, so add to taste) to blender. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour mixture into the watermelon. Then, repeat steps 1 & 2 to fill your watermelon and as many times necessary for additional pitchers if needed.
  4. Cut out the bottom of your plastic cup, enough so that it can work as the spout for your watermelon. Place in it in the hole you cut out.
  5. Rub some lime juice around the rim, salt** (if you want) and enjoy!

** Prior to juicing the limes for the lime juice, I zested three limes and set the zest aside. Later I mixed it with the sea salt.
