From cell phone lock up to only showing current collections, fashion week has finally started to take a turn for the better. This year’s NYFW Fall 2019 recap will include everything I loved to why I agree with fashion week sans cellphones. I’ll also explain why I’m saying goodbye to SS 2020.
A Goodbye to SS 2020 and Cellphones
Catching up to the social media, iPhone-as-an-appendage-of-the-body era has been pretty disruptive in all industries across the board. With fast fashion immediately knocking off designs that aren’t set to arrive until six months later, to runway shows where everyone has their phone out, it’s also been an adjustment in the fashion industry, to say the least.
But still, some designers still choose to show their future collections to the public. So today I’m going to focus on what you should be wearing this Fall and how you can take inspiration from the runway and add touches of it into your everyday wardrobe.
While I love capturing content and seeing what’s next, I think there are some benefits to this disruption.
What would NYFW be like without your cellphone? I’m normally in the second or third row at a show and it’s so distracting that everyone has their phones out (I’m guilty myself). While I understand everyone is just trying to collect content to support the brand they’re seeing, it would be nice to really soak up the show sans distraction. I think this would also weed out a lot of people who come to fashion week for the wrong reasons.
Future vs. Current collections. If more designers showed their upcoming, most current, collection (ie. Fall in September, Spring in February), you don’t have to worry about fast fashion knocking it off. I also want to know what I should be wearing now and I enjoy being inspired to wear it in an interesting way.
Finally, in this overconsumption era, I’m also going to remind you to know the cost per wear of any item you choose to buy (before you buy it). While I’ll be suggesting items from many of the trends to shop, I encourage you to only shop if it makes sense to you, your budget and your closet!
NYFW Fall 2019 Recap
Christopher John Rogers
Matching sets were seen all over the runways this season, and Christopher John Rogers showcased this trend in an eye-catching way. The magic is always in the mix, isn’t it? From striking fabrics like this iridescent green suit to pairing together different plaid prints, CJR shows how to own this runway statement.
The energy in the room was the next level and increased as each look came out. Models twirled down the runway and show received a well-deserved station ovation. For those of you that don’t know, a standing ovation is a rare occurrence in the fashion community. So bravo, Christopher, I’m so lucky to have been invited!!
PS. My girl @morganfhill hand made the stunning jewelry for the show!

Rebecca Minkoff
Many designers took on the see now, buy now, wear now attitude for NYFW and have opted to show their soon to drop Fall collection (instead of Spring Summer 2020), and Minkoff did just this. I love the elevated back-to-school vibe throughout the collection. From cozy sweaters to faux fur coats seeing Fall clothing during the beginning of Fall was very exciting for me. Check out some Fall items from the presentation that just started hitting online!

Rihanna
Rihanna banned cellphones and cameras from her Savage x Fenty lingerie show, but not for why you might think. The Savage x Fenty show will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime this Friday, September 20th, so they wanted to keep everything under wraps. Not only was it was amazing to witness show but to view it without having to look out through a sea of cellphone screens, next-level.
When I tell you, you don’t want to miss this, trust me you don’t. Dubbed the new, inclusive, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, every variety of woman had a moment. Also, entertainment stars like Fabolous, Migos, DJ Khaled and Halsey performed.
Huge congrats to my friends at Eleven Eleven Media that produced the show and thank you Robin (@withrobinj) for the great company!
Chiara Boni La Petite Robe
Chiara Boni is bringing the rodeo to Spring and Summer 2020 and I’m excited about it! You know how much I like statement items, and this show was filled with them. Bold prints and accessories rocked the runway. As someone who enjoys prints and statement pieces, I have my eye on a lot of items in this collection!
The star moment? Pat and Anna Cleveland sang together, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons, and it was EPIC.

Aveda Back of House for Tibi
I’ve seen hair Artist Frank Rizzieri for Aveda in action three NYFW’s now. He’s calm, knows exactly what look he is trying to create and explains everything to the crowd of press and influencers that stand around him backstage. The look for the Tibi SS20 runway show was contrasting textures with a sleek center part and natural dry waves. I love that Tibi always goes with a natural look for the models in their show. The hair was a relaxed wet hair look to me that I’ll be creating on my Instagram stories soon!

L’Agence
The headscarf paired with a hat immediately reminded me of a look at styled at the end of last Summer. Needless to say, I loved this entire collection. From matching sets to the bold prints in different fabrics, each look was more stunning than the last. My favorite part is that ever look seems so wearable.

One of my favorite parts of NYFW is seeing old friends, meeting new ones and meeting Instagram friends for the first time! Check out some of my run-ins below:

Personal Style
You may remeber from my post about how to attend NYFW, I said I may borrow some items to wear. In the end I opted to wear all my own clothes. When it comes down to it, I still have a full time job, so it makes my life a lot less stressful to not borrow. I also tried to wear the designer’s items if I already owned them. This NYFW Fall 2019 recap has been my favorite fashion weeks to write about to date. And while a total goodbye to cellphones seems still out of the question, a goodbye to SS 2020 and showing advanced collections seems like it’s may just make the cut.
