Gurneys is one of the longest-standing year-round resorts in Montauk, New York, opening its doors over 90 years ago. In the past five years or so, Gurney’s has gone from being a beautiful hotel at the end of the South Fork to an instagramable sensation. So what’s the real hype? Should you go? Is it worth your hard-earned money? Why does everyone love Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa so much?
It’s been quite an event-filled year for me so far, so you can bet heading out to Montauk wasn’t just a random trip. From the Westchester Blogger Babes first official Brunch, Hosting the Spring Fashion Show at Bloomingdale’s White Plains, being the keynote speaker at Penny’s conference, the DVF Awards to the CFDA Awards, the Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic and working the Statue of Liberty Sunset Picnic my year has jam-packed. So you may be thinking, especially since my boyfriend has a family home on the North Fork, what brought me to Gurneys? Rest? Wanting to see a new place? Giving into the hype? Well, not so much any of those.
So why was I there?
My boyfriend’s cousin who I consider family had the most STUNNING wedding there. It was such an amazing experience to spend time with his family at Gurney’s. Walking around the resort and being able to see everyone, eat together and spend time together at this beautiful place was so special. This trip made me understand why Jen and Stephen had to get married there.
After my experience this weekend, and the response I received on Instagram, I knew I could help some of you with this post. Today I’m here to break down the hype.

Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa Breakdown
Food
Scarpetta: We had breakfast at Scarpetta on Saturday and ate outside on the deck. Elevated above the beach, you can imagine how beautiful the view was. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes (still using the wisdom teeth extraction excuse to eat soft foods LOL) and Tom had a BE&C on a croissant. I ate the salad that came with his breakfast and the vinaigrette was soooo good!
The Beach Club: Located right on the beach on a slightly raised deck. For lunch, I had a lobster roll that had to be one of the best ones I’ve ever had. Yes, that good. Paired with some French friends because #basic yet equally delicious. A girl loves her fries. While I didn’t lay out on the beach during my stay I can totally appreciate how amazing it is to be able to grab food and drinks right on the beach.
You are paying NYC prices for your meals, but they are worth it. Everything came out hot, the service was attentive and the food was delicious.
Additional dining on the property: I only stayed two nights and one full day. And remember, I was there for a wedding so I didn’t get to try all the food. A few more options are: Tillie’s offers breakfast and lunch, Corso Coffee is a coffee bar located in the main lobby, and The Regent Cocktail Club which is exactly what it sounds like, drinks and a good time!
Room
Rooms can run you anywhere from $300 off-season, in the $500-600 range semi-off-season (early to mid-June, after the second week of October), and up to $1050 per night or more for peak season rooms.
That said, our room was fully renovated and beautiful. Everything was fresh and new with a very elevated feel, definitely worthy of five stars. Getting to your room is a bit of another story. While I didn’t mind the stairs if you are older/lazy/wasted I could understand how the climb to your room can from the beach can be a lot. But once you get there, the comfortable bed and deck with that ocean view make the climb worth it!
The room also included a bathrobe and slippers, a blow dryer, an iron, and a Nespresso machine.
Beach
Boasting a 2,000-foot private beach that cannot be missed from any room on its hills. Tom and I were able to take a walk that seemed to never end. There are also day beds to rent, ample chairs and the Beach Club where you can grab drinks and lunch for your time on the beach.
Getting there
We drove from Westchester County to Montauk and it’s a solid three-hour drive. You’d think I’d be used to it from driving out to the North Fork every weekend, but that extra hour made me a bit complain-y. The second you get there it’s totally worth it though, just pee before you leave the house.
Should you go?
As a content creator, I think it’s absolutely worth it. The sheer amount of DMs I received on Instagram over the weekend was insane. People were asking where I was, expressing how exciting it was that I was there, how is it and how lucky I was to be there. Who knew people loved Gurney’s that much?
If you love a relaxing spa or beach day followed by good food and nightlife Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa has also got you covered in that realm.
Someone looking to disconnect. While there is free wifi, there’s almost no cell service, it was almost impossible to make a call. If you don’t connect to the wifi your trip can be a great cellphone detox!

Don’t forget to bring:
- A travel steamer or downy wrinkle release. There’s only an iron in the room and if you’re driving for three hours, some items may get wrinkled.
- Sunglasses, sunblock, and a hat. Keeping it youthful here.
- A jacket, it gets cool at night since you are right on the water.
- Workout clothes; along with offering a number of workout classes on site (from yoga to HIIT) a long run on the beach is also amazing. On our walk, we saw plenty of people enjoying their run!
