Three times this past weekend I heard that “Summer is over”. Uhhh, no, it’s not… and if that’s your opinion we can’t be friends. LOL. So, as Summer just begins, I wanted to share my top 10 things to do on the North Fork this Summer.
My boyfriend Tom’s family has a summer house on the North Fork in a cute little town I’d rather not name because I’m afraid of murderers. haha, but seriously. Tom and I have been together for ten years, so I’ve been going out east for eight summers now? Something like that!
Mostly I’m a beach creature and all I want to do is… well… nothing. There have been many weekends over the years that I’ve been completely worthless. And I’m not mad about it. Luckily over time, I’ve left the beach, gotten to know the area and have checked out several great places. Which I’m going to share with you today!
Top 10 Things To Do On The North Fork This Summer
1. Love Lane – Mattituck, New York
Love Lane is a small block located in the hamlet of Mattituck that hosts many small mom-and-pop businesses. While I’m not completely sure who they’re all owned by, this little lane has the quaintest small-town feel to it, and shops you shouldn’t miss! Including:
- The Village Cheese Shop & Café What’s better than a store dedicated to cheese?? 105 Love Ln
- Love Lane Sweet Shoppe They have the best Godiva chocolates by piece! 125 Love Ln
- Mint Clothing Boutique Forgot to bring something? Mint is always good for a cute little sundress! 260 Love Ln
- North Fork Doughnut Company You can find this donut shop right off of Love Lane. 13175 Main Rd
2. Visit The Sound View Hotel – Greenport, New York
Location: 58775 County Rd 48
- The Halyard Sit outside on the deck and enjoy your lunch over the Lond Island sound. The water is literally underneath you and the view is Grade A. The food is equally delicious.
- Salutations on the Sound Do a yoga workout around the Sound View pool overlooking the water. Sign up here.
3. Lavender by the Bay
Location: 7540 Main Rd, East Marion, New York
Don’t miss this beautiful lavender field, you can instantly smell the relaxing aroma as you pull up to the farm. The lavender is usually available until the end of July but the sooner you go the better as they have already started to harvest it! You can shop both fresh and dried lavender, bath & body products and lavender honey available in August!
4. Check out the Sunflower Fields
Left: Wickham Ave Right: Bay View Farm
Location: 8623 Wickham Ave, Mattituck, NY
The sunflower fields usually start popping up starting the beginning of August. As I’m able to confirm the sunflower fields I will update this post! Last year the Wickham Ave location had the best sunflower fields there are also two more that I know of:
Pindar Vineyards 37645 NY-25, Peconic, New York
Bay View Farm Market 891 Main Rd, Aquebogue, New York
5. Wine & Pizza – Macari Vineyard
Location: 150 Bergen Ave, Mattituck, NY
There are plenty of vineyards on the North Fork, but I have to say, you can’t beat fresh pizza (made in a pizza truck on-site) and rosé.
6. An Evening in Greenport
While Greenport is great at all times, as I said before, I enjoy spending my time at the beach during the day. So, I suggest heading to Greenport for dinner and drinks! It’s also nicer to walk around when the sun begins to set and the air gets cooler.
- American Beech Order the lobster roll or beach burger. 300 Main St
- Brix and Rye I’ve never had a bad cocktail here! Order nonna’s wood-fired meatballs and the white pie with mashed potatoes, garlic and bacon! 308A Main St
- Get the sweet and salty popcorn from The Hampton Chocolate Factory 117 Main St
- Head down to the end of Main street and take a stroll down the large center dock.
- Check out the old Greenport Jail. Kind of cool to see while you’re there! 232 Carpenter St
7. Take the Ferry To Shelter Island and have a drink at Sunset Beach
Location: 35 Shore Rd, Shelter Island Heights, NY
While I’ve only gone twice, it is a must-go if you’re vacationing. Fair warning, it’s expensive AF. I recommend just getting a drink and enjoying the beach. Making a reservation is necessary if you plan on eating. You can catch the ferry to Shelter Island right in Greenport. And while on the North Fork you might as well check out this cool space!
8. Wickhams Fruit Farm
Location: 28700 Main Rd, Cutchogue, NY
Closed on Sunday’s so you can’t stop here on your way home. But it is worth a Saturday morning trip. Grab the homemade sugar donuts (my FAVORITE), honey, and fresh fruits and veggies.
9. Goldberg’s Bagels
Location: 10095 Main Rd, Mattituck
If you follow me on Instagram you know I have one almost every weekend. #guiltypleasure I order either a toasted egg everything bagel scooped out with vegetable cream cheese or an everything flagel toasted with cream cheese and butter.
10. On your way home… Stop by a farm stand on the Main Road
- Hallock’s Cider Mill I love their crumb cake and apple fritters! 1960 Main Rd, Laurel, NY
- Harbes Family Farm They have the best fresh corn and tomatoes! 715 Sound Ave, Mattituck, NY
- Bayview Farm and Market Another great spot for local fresh produce! 891 Main Road, Rt. 25, Aquebogue, NY
That’s all!
My life mostly revolves around food which is why there are so many places and things to eat in this post! If I had to choose one thing not to miss it would be visiting Greenport. One thing I would pass on is a winery tour (where they take you on a bus to a million different wineries), you’ve seen one or two, you’ve seen them all.
I hope you liked my top 10 things to do on the North Fork this Summer!! If you’re planning on going and have any questions leave them in the comments!
