Thank you Sagamore Resort for the complimentary stay. All opinions are honest and my own. Photography by Riley McCarthy.
Exploring the northeast was never on the top of my bucket list. After being stuck inside for a good sum of a year, I opened up my perspective and changed my mind. Living in Westchester County having New York City in such close proximity, it had always been my go-to playground and the place where I sought adventure. After my most recent three day getaway to the Sagamore Resort on Lake George New York with my friend Jackie, I can truthfully tell you that you can find adventure everywhere.
While we all define adventure differently, for me, our three day getaway to the Sagamore on Lake George was the closest thing that this lower-Westchester County girl is going to get to camping. It was the perfect mix of Appalachian Mountain air, lake life, and luxury. So yes, to me that is the only way I will go camping. For now at least. I’ve also learned never is a lie.
Three Day Getaway to The Sagamore Resort on Lake George New York
The Sagamore is a true resort – you do not have to leave the grounds to have an amazing time. There are seven restaurants, a large outdoor pool, outdoor kids pool, indoor pool, tennis courts, soccer field, basketball court, spa, fitness center, and a lake cruise line docked right at the resort. Off the main resort grounds, the Sagamore even has its own golf course.
There was an amazing mix of people staying. There were families with kids of all ages, older couples, newlyweds, girlfriends, young couples, really all ages were covered. The resort is also large enough that you never felt like you were stuck around anyone. You could find a quiet space to read a book or a fun place to drink and listen to music while enjoying the sun.
Getting There
The Sagamore Resort on Lake George New York is located in the town of Bolton Landing. Without traffic, the ride is around three and a half hours from Westchester County. Coming home it took about four hours with traffic. The ride up the Taconic State Parkway is beautiful and is also without large trucks. You can also take I-87, both ways are pretty much a straight shot up to Lake George.
The resort has its own parking lot close to all the rooms and lodges making it easy to get in and get out.
The Rooms
We stayed in the lodges closest to the main hotel, rooms 401 and 403. One room had a bedroom with two queen beds, a bathroom, living room, kitchen, dining space, and a terrace. The other room was a door away, both rooms were enclosed by the main door then each had its own separate door. It had a king-size bed and bathroom.
It was over 100 degrees while we were there and the AC was COLD. After a long hot day and the pool and lake, there was nothing better than coming back to an ice-cold room. The beds were also so comfortable – I liked the pillows so much I took a picture of the brand! That’s how good.
We were so close to the main hotel so it was easy for us to walk right over. If you book a lodge that is further away from the hotel there are constant golf carts roaming around to take you to the main hotel. We got asked twice if we needed a ride! And we were literally steps away from the main hotel.
What To Eat
The Pavilion
This restaurant is placed right on the lake, about a two-minute walk down from the main hotel, with beautiful views of the mountains. We at lunch outside when we arrived and dinner the next evening. I had the lobster roll for lunch, which was amazing, and a steak salad for dinner. Part of the restaurant seating is a covered open space and the other half is seated fully outside. While we went on what I believe will be some of the hottest days this Summer, there was always a beautiful light breeze from the lake. The wait staff had the ice water flowing and there were no complaints from this Summer loving girl.
La Bella Vita
Located in the main hotel, La Bella Vita offers air-conditioned indoor seating and outdoor seating on the deck that overlooks the resort and lake. We got breakfast here both mornings and choose to do the buffet instead of a la carte. The buffet had everything you could want and more. Complete with an omelet station, fruit bar, bagels, oatmeal, a cereal bar, and all your breakfast favorites like scrambled eggs, bacon, french toast, and potatoes.
For dinner, Jackie and I split the Tuscan Harvest Salad and the Norwegian Arctic Salmon. Not only were both delicious dishes, when we ordered we told them we would be splitting the two meals and when they came out they had already split them between the plates for us. That’s probably one of my favorite service experiences I never expect but love when they do it! The coffee chip gelato was also a 10/10.
The Lake House
We spent most of our full-day between the lake and the pool so when we got hungry we headed to The Lake House. Centrally located in between the lake and the pool you can grab a cocktail or get a full bar-style lunch. We split a Ceasar salad wrap and chicken fingers and chips. It was the perfect break from the sun and we didn’t have to change to grab a bite!

Things To Do
The Pools
The Sagamore Resort has three pools – one indoor pool, a large outdoor pool, and kids outdoor pool. We spent half our time at the large outdoor pool. We sat down on the main dock most of the day on a large concrete area that was right on the lake. When we got hot we took a walk up to the pool, took a dip, and headed back down to our seats. On our last day we went down to the pool around 7:45 AM and there were maybe 10 people there and only one person in the pool swimming laps. By 8:45 AM it was a bit busier but far from the height of people that there around 1 PM.
The Lake
I went in Lake George! In a tube but I went in. We were told the water was around 72 degrees, and on this insanely hot day, it was truly refreshing to get in the lake. There is docked area where you can lounge in tubes and another roped-off area with a lifeguard where you can jump in and swim. You can see the bottom of the lake close to the dock in most areas and the water felt and looked very clean. I was very comfortable wading in the lake and it felt cleaner than the ocean or Peconic Bay on the North Fork.
Nighttime
Hang out on the Veranda Terraces. One evening we sat outside, watched the sunset, and got espresso martinis! There are constantly waiters coming around wherever you’re hanging out.
I truly had the best three day getaway to The Sagamore Resort on Lake George, New York. It was refreshing, relaxing, fun, and exciting. If you’re looking for a quick local getaway this is the place. I’ll definitely be back, next time with my husband! Finally, don’t forget to stop at one of the original Ben & Jerry’s on your way to or leaving the hotel. Trust me you always regret the ice cream you didn’t eat and they had dairy-free options as well!
