Procrastinating is the enemy of success. We’ve all been guilty of it one time or another. I don’t think I’ve ever been a serial procrastinator but I know the feeling of dragging my feet when there’s something I need to do. Like waiting until 4:30 p.m. on a Sunday to go to the supermarket. The worst. So today I’m sharing four tips that help me to not procrastinate!

Wake up early. Especially on the weekends. Nothing throws me off more than sleeping in on the weekends. I like to try and get up by 8:30 a.m. and get everything done. I usually try to be on a schedule so I can get everything I have to do out of the way early. Which brings me to my next tip…

Give yourself a deadline. I’m the type of person who likes to get everything important done before lunch. Obviously, this doesn’t always happen, but it’s part of my daily goals. Giving yourself a concrete deadline like start on Monday, December 4th finish on Friday, December 8th puts what needs to be done into perspective. Giving yourself this timeline will help you visualize what you need to do. So if you have a five-page paper to do, I would do a page and a half every day and then review and proofread on Friday.

Say no to distractions. Aka lock all your Apple products in a safe. Especially when I’m doing something I know I don’t want to do, working somewhere without distractions is key. If I’m home, I make sure my TV is off and my phone is in another room. I’m also strict about my internet browsing.

Break it down. This is similar to giving yourself deadlines. If you have a big project, say cleaning out your closet, it may help to break it up into different pieces. Monday, you’ll clean the floor, Tuesday, left half and Wednesday, right half. The mini accomplishments will motivate you to finish the job!
