In June of 2025, I was on the hunt for a new mattress. After two pregnancies, I was experiencing back pain for the first time in my life. Then, after my husband injured his back, we found that our mattress had become way too soft after only 4 years of use. We looked at each other one day, and I knew the dreaded mattress search was upon us. Finding the “best mattress” in the online sea of “bests”.
But with the combined effects of postpartum sleep exhaustion and constant waking up sore and tired, I was determined to improve our sleep quality. As I started researching, one brand kept coming up, Helix, and specifically their award-winning Midnight Lux mattress. To my surprise, we took the Helix Sleep Quiz and landed on the Helix Twilight Luxe, one of their medium-to-firm mattresses.
Before I get started, Helix gave me a code SIMONEA for 27% off! This deal is better than their MDW sale!
Now, let’s get into my Helix Mattress Review.
Honest Helix Twilight Mattress Review After Sleeping on It
I’ll cut to the chase a bit here. In August, we’ll have had our Helix Twilight mattress for a year. I just got a second one for our room in my in-laws’ summer house. Needless to say, it’s been a great decision for us.
After we matched with Twilight, I was a bit worried. My mom likes sleeping on a firm mattress, so I knew how hard they can feel from just hanging out on the bed when I’m at my parents’ house.
My first impression: delivery and set-up were easy. The transition from a medium mattress that had become quite soft to a firm mattress was a big change. While only an 8 on the firmness scale, the firmness felt more like a 9-10 than a medium-firm mattress, almost too hard at first. But the first morning I woke up without a backache, I was committed to giving it a chance. It took about three nights to get used to it, but now I can’t imagine sleeping on anything else.
I also want to touch on motion transfer, edge support, and cooling. First, I can’t feel my husband leave the bed in the morning, and he’s up quite early. The edge support is great, and I was impressed by the cooling factor as someone who’s become a hot sleeper post-kids.
Who is the Helix Twilight Mattress Best for?
After a lot of consideration, there are a few types of sleepers I think would like the Helix Twilight mattress. Based on both my needs and my husband’s, I’ll go through a few people I think this will work for!

Best for Side Sleepers Who Need More Support
If you’re a side sleeper, the goal is to keep your spine in a neutral position while you sleep. Softer mattresses can throw this alignment off, making either your shoulders or hips sink too deeply into the mattress. Most experts recommend a firmness of 6-7 for side sleepers. A mattress that is too firm can put too much pressure on your shoulders (the Twilight lands at an 8). I got used to it rather quickly. The first few nights, I definitely had to figure out how to get comfortable, but once I did, I slept well.
I will say that the initial pressure I felt in my shoulder is long gone after almost a year with the mattress.
A Great Option for Combination Sleepers
My husband and I are both combination sleepers. I sleep on my side and stomach, and he sleeps on his side and back. Similar to the above, when I was trying to figure out if a firm mattress was really right for us, I came across spinal alignment again. To wake up feeling refreshed and pain-free, you want to make sure your spine is aligned while you sleep. This targeted support ensures your hips don’t sink too deep while you sleep, which can throw your body out of alignment.
On top of this, a firm mattress allows for easier movement while you sleep. While a medium memory foam mattress will let you sink into a position, we both move a bit while we sleep, so you feel less stuck on a firmer mattress.
Probably Better for People Who Prefer a Firmer Mattress
If you like the cozy, sunken-in feel of a soft-to-medium mattress, the Helix Twilight Luxe probably isn’t right for you. I highly recommend checking out their Midnight Luxe (level 6, medium firmness) or their Sunset Luxe (level 3, soft feel) for a truly soft feel.
Hot Sleepers
I also sleep extremely hot and noticed a big difference with airflow and overall sleep quality compared to our older mattress.
How the Helix Twilight Luxe Compares to Other Helix Models

Now, after checking out the site, you may be asking yourself what the difference is between Core Collection Helix Twilight, Helix Twilight Luxe, and Helix Twilight Elite? I did too.
The main differences are that the core collection Twilight is a bit firmer (8-10 on the firmness scale) and has a lower 12-inch profile. The Luxe has a 13.5-inch profile with a plush pillow top, adding about 2 inches of extra memory foam. Which is why the luxe lands at a 7 on the firmness scale.
Now the Helix Twilight Elite gives you ultra-dense 7lb memory foam (compared to 4lb foam in the Luxe), a 15.5-inch profile, thousands of extra micro-coils, and an advanced built-in GlacioTex Elite cooling cover (an add-on for the Luxe).
In Core, Luxe, and Elite categories, you’ll find the:
- Helix Sunset – soft feel, for side-sleepers
- Helix Moonlight – soft feel, for back/stomach sleepers
- Helix Midnight – medium feel, for side-sleepers
- Helix Dawn — medium feel, for back/stomach sleepers
- Helix Twilight – firm feel, for side-sleepers
- Helix Dusk – firm feel, for back/stomach sleepers
What the Helix Mattress Actually Feels Like
The Helix Twilight has a true medium-firm feel in my opinion. Supportive without feeling hard, which was really important to me as a stomach/side sleeper who also deals with lower back pain from carrying kids constantly. It feels much more supportive than our old mattress, but still comfortable enough that it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping on a firmer bed.
I also noticed almost immediately that the edge support and motion isolation were better than what we were used to. My husband can fall asleep anywhere and moves around a lot less than I do, but I’m a lighter sleeper and sleep really hot. The hybrid mattress design with memory foam and steel coils feels breathable while still giving enough lumbar support and pressure relief. Overall, the bed feels supportive, cooling, and really balanced without sinking too much.
Things to Know Before You Buy a Helix Mattress
If you’re mattress shopping, I definitely recommend taking the Helix Sleep Quiz first, because the different Helix models have distinct feels depending on your sleep position, body type, and comfort preferences. My husband and I took the quiz separately and both landed on the Helix Twilight, which made me feel much more confident it was the right mattress for us.
I also think it’s worth understanding the difference between the standard Helix mattresses and the Luxe version before ordering. We wanted something supportive with a medium-firm mattress feel, good cooling, and extra support without going overly soft. The 100-night sleep trial also made buying a new mattress feel much less stressful, since you actually have time to adjust to it at home.
Bedding We’ve Been Using With Our Helix Mattress
(L: CoolShift, R: Organic Cotton)
About a month ago, I got the CoolShift sheet set and absolutely felt my body was cooler throughout the night. They’re also very soft, with an almost slippery feeling. The Tencel fabric is very breathable and the deep pockets helps keep the sheets on the bed no matter the movement.
My other sheet set is one of my favorite Amazon finds, 100% organic cotton sheets. Now I’ve had these for around 8 months, and they’ve worn very well with weekly washes.
Finally, good bedding honestly makes a huge difference too. I shared a full review of our Quince bedding here.
Is Helix Twilight Luxe Worth It?
I genuinely think the Helix Twilight is a great option if you’re looking for a supportive hybrid mattress that still feels comfortable and balanced. As a side sleeper, I personally wanted something more supportive than a soft mattress, but not overly firm either, and the Helix Twilight ended up being a really good middle ground.
Since I also sleep hot, improving my overall sleep quality was a huge priority for me, and I’ve definitely noticed a difference since switching to this mattress. Between the cooling feel, motion isolation, and extra lumbar support, it feels like a really practical upgrade that actually impacts everyday life.
I also appreciated that the Helix brand makes it easier to find the right mattress for your specific sleep style and comfort preferences instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach. After a lot of mattress shopping and comparing different Helix models, this ended up feeling like the best fit for both my husband and me.
