It’s no secret I love a capsule wardrobe. In my book, J.Crew embodies quintessential American style that includes practical and timeless pieces you’ll wear year after year. If you’ve been looking for a sign to clean out your closet in exchange for a fresh spring capsule wardrobe I’m here to tell you this is it.
After paring down my wardrobe starting four or so years ago I found myself lacking these key basics. During this time I popped into my favorite stores frequently on the hunt for these staple pieces. To share my findings, I started with brands like Everlane and H&M, and I created guides. I hoped to help others make their closets feel a warm embrace that helps you take on the day, instead of an obstacle.
I selected fourteen staple pieces, including linen dresses and elevated button-down shirts, that will become your spring essentials. They recently dropped a bunch of new spring arrivals so let’s get into your J.Crew capsule spring wardrobe.
J.Crew Spring Capsule Wardrobe Classic Everyday Outfits
1. Airy Gauze Button-up shirt
This is one of those versatile lightweight pieces that will become your go-to in Spring and Summer. Dress it up for dinner with some jewlery or use it as a beach cover-up. Either way this 100% cotton crinkled textured shirt will be a staple in your spring capsule wardrobe. I took a size small as the medium felt a bit too oversized.
2. Garçon classic shirt in cotton poplin
To know me is to know there would absolutely be a white button-up in this guide. It’s such a versatile piece in any season. Made of 100% regenagri-certified cotton, this shirt is the perfect marriage between a slim cut and oversized for the perfect fit.
Alternately if this is already in your closet, also make sure you have a cotton tee. I’d opt for the new relaxed linen t-shirt!
3. Étienne oversized shirt
A striped cotton poplin is a classic shirt that everyone should have in their spring wardrobe. Perfect for the office or date night, this style will provide the ultimate comfort. My preference is to pair it with jeans for a classic everyday outfit.
4. Heritage Cotton rollneck sweater
While I wished I lived somewhere where a sweater in spring wasn’t a necessary purchase, I don’t. It currently in the 50s in New York still, so my eye went right to this rollneck striped sweater. With a relaxed fit made entirely of cotton, this is one of those items that embodies that classic American style I was talking about earlier.
5. New Soleil Pant in Linen
Linen pants are a must have for me. I love the updated thinner waistband on these; perfect for everyday wear or even on the beach! If you’re looking to add a pop of color to your spring capsule wardrobe, these also come in a pretty tomato shade, light orange, and vibrant green!
6. Airy Gauze Beach Pant
This is one of those great items that easy to mix and match or pair back to the set. Lightweight and so comfortable, these pants hit me right at the ankle bone (I’m 5’5″).
7. Stratus Pant in Textured Satin
These are the best seller stratus pant for a reason, they put all my silk pants to shame. They are the perfect amount of shine with a luxe look and feel. Yet they’re made out of sustainably sourced wood pulp! If there ever was a win it’s these pant. I take them in a size small, I’m normally a medium.
8. Highrise Relaxed Straight Jeans
Jeans are one of those classic pieces that you should have a pair of that you love. This pair is a great alternative to a skinny jean if you’re not willing to go all the way back.
9. Cabana Dress
While a maxi shirts may be a bit more interchangeable, linen dresses are a warm-weather staple. The cabana dress in linen is both effortless and sophisticated. I love the v-neck and the removable tie waist. The white is lined with a slip dress.
10. Classic Belt in Italian Leather
Simple, clean, classic wardrobe essential a leather belt!
11. Large Handknotted packable tote bag
The best way to make any outfit a spring outfit is with a straw bag. This one is easy to fold, making it great for vacation in the perfect carry-all size.
If you don’t love a large tote, go for the Edie crossbody bag in ivory English saddle.
12. Berkeley Bucket Bag
I own this bag in the navy suede and black leather combo, and I can’t praise it enough. It can fit your laptop, baby necessities (like my small diaper pouch and changing pad), and is still lightweight.
13. Andi Ballet Flats
When I want to test out a trend I always opt for a classic shape or style with the fun trendy piece mixed in. Classic ballet flats in mesh is a great way to experiment with transparency without compromising style.
