I consider each of these items an anchor piece in your capsule wardrobe. They pull a look together, are the perfect base of a fall outfit, and ground you when you’re spiraling trying to create a look. Because let’s be real, who hasn’t lost it trying to pick out an outfit?

The white button-down is seasonless in my opinion. Whether you opt for linen or cotton, it’s something I grab for all year round. It’s can be layered under a sweatshirt, worn open over a t-shirt, and to your next meeting paired with trousers. I’ve said it before trousers are the new jeans. And as much as I live in jeans, the right pair of trousers is actually more comfortable. Trousers are another versatile capsule wardrobe item because they can be worn with sneakers for a casual look or boots for something more polished.

Get yourself a good pair of jeans. If you don’t have a go-to pair, opt for something with a wider leg. While skinny jeans will always have a place in the basics, a fresh cut is perfect for your fall capsule wardrobe refresh. Sticking with staying classic, I would also say to opt for something without cuts throughout the legs.
6. Neutral Cardigan
A neutral cardigan is exactly what you need to extend the wear-time of all your summer dresses. A white, black, or nude cardigan can be paired back with any maxi dress as the temperatures drop. This capsule wardrobe essential is one you will find yourself cozying up with all season long.
7. Striped Sweater
The epitome of Parisian street style is the striped sweater. And who doesn’t want to look like a chic french girly? I know I do. Draped over your shoulders or paired with trousers this capsule wardrobe staple instantly elevates your wardrobe. Whether you’re heading to brunch or the food store, a striped sweater adds a bit of je ne sais quoi to any look.
8. Sweatshirt
Hear me out, I like comfort and I’m not willing to give it up. Fall eludes all the cozy vibes and sometimes we just need to opt for a sweatshirt. But hey we’re all fashion lovers here, and a sweatshirt doesn’t have to mean your at-home-sweatshirt. Opt for elevated branding or a clean style to keep your look style forward.
9. White Sneakers
There are no casual fall capsule wardrobe items more suited to be on this list than white sneakers. And it’s time your refresh that pair sitting by your front door. While I love my Nike Air Force 1s they often need cleaning. Go for something off-white or with less stitching (like the Everlane pair below) to keep it simple.
